Non-Ferrous Scrap Metal

#1 Bare Bright Copper:

Uncoated, no smaller than no. 16 wire gauge; Insulation must be removed before,
cannot be corroded, and no paint. Must be shiny, not burnt.

#1 Copper Tubing:

Tubing and fittings, no threads, no paint, uncoated, and no solder.

#1 Copper Wire:

Single strand of copper; braided copper must be thicker than pencil lead.

#2 Copper:

Tubing that has corrosion, has solder or paint; striped wired down to 20 gauge.
(Opposite of #1 Copper)

Sheet Copper:

Copper sheet; guttering or roofing copper.

Insulated #1 Copper Wire:

Single strand of copper; braided copper must be thicker than pencil lead.
(Example: house wire)

Insulated #2 Copper Wire:

All other insulated wire down to 20 gauge. (Example: extension cords, automotive wire)

Insulated #3 Copper Wire:

Insulated copper wire, Ethernet or phone wire (communication wire).

Insulated #4 Copper Wire:

Christmas lights

Stainless Steel:

Must be pure, no attachments and needs to be inspected; generally not magnetic.

Clean Aluminum:

Not magnetic; must have all rubber, foam, plastic, iron removed (considered dirty or breakage if this description is not met); not cast. (Example:  home siding, window frames)

Cast Aluminum:

Aluminum that has been made in a molding; it will crack, where regular aluminum will not; must be free of rubber, foam, plastic and iron; non-magnetic.

Aluminum Radiators:

Must be free of steel and plastic, and all liquid must be drained; not magnetic.

Aluminum Wheels:

Lead wheel weights, valve stems, and plastic caps need to be removed; two types – chrome and alloy; not magnetic.

Copper Aluminum Radiators: (ACR)

Radiator that is only made of aluminum and copper; the brass, plastic, iron needs to be removed. (Example: air conditioner coils)

Aluminum Cans:

Cans – no plastics or trash in the bags; can be crushed or not crushed;
food cans are not aluminum.

Brass:

Steel and iron must be removed. (Examples: faucets, taps, valves)

Lead:

No steel, foil or paper attachments; generally a softer, heavier metal that is bendable
or has dents.

Sealed Units:

Compressor unit from AC or cooling units; must be drained of all fluids.

Electric Motors:

Motor only (Example: ceiling fan motor)

Auto Batteries:

Lead-acid only accepted no holes and battery intact.

Ballasts:

From fluorescent light fixtures; must say no PCBs
